In The NewsSuper Hero Safety Day,
Saturday, Nov. 4 BY AUDREY GAY EHRHARDT Mark you calendars and get
excited! Super Hero Safety Day
is almost here. This time last year two
members of The West Pasco Bar Association (WPBA) Young Lawyers Division,
attorneys Christine Pejot and Mike Wilson, of Pejot Wilson Law, developed
the idea for Super Hero Safety Day. In the Young Lawyers Division meetings that followed Pejot and Wilson’s proposal, our division identified and researched various tragedies that our community and surrounding areas have faced such as child abduction, drowning, bicycle and pedestrian accidents and fire safety.
Our division realized that accidental deaths continued to rise and
this motivated us to explore the ways to increase overall safety awareness
for children and their families.
Pejot and Wilson’s ideas and hard work together with their fellow
members in the Young Lawyers Division have resulted in the development of a
community service project that will promote a sense of community among legal
professionals, law enforcement, first responders, teachers, parents, legal
guardians, and students.
At the same time, it will educate elementary school children, a long
with their parents and guardians, with a greater knowledge of safety
awareness through fun-filled, interactive learning.
The division selected Safety Town for the community service project
because Safety Town is dedicated to providing safety awareness for children.
With this dynamic idea for a community service project in place,
Attorney Tara O’Connor, went to the Florida Young Lawyers Affiliate
Outreach Conference and presented the idea and was awarded second place in
the state, together with a grant for the group’s efforts.
As the momentum built, the WPBA Young Lawyers Division then applied
for and won a second grant from the American Bar Association’s Young
Lawyers Division.
The WPBA Young Lawyers Division has prepared a dynamic schedule for
Super Hero Safety Day, which will be Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006.
The day will begin at 9 a.m. and last until 2 p.m.
The event is aimed at children up to 12 years old and their families.
Admission is free.
There will be many safety demonstrations and events with attendees
such as the fire department, sheriff’s department, and emergency medical
services, together with exciting performances by a magician, the Tricky
Dogs, a martial arts expert and Zumba Kids.
There will be food available for purchase.
Free raffles with great prizes are expected to take place every hour
and Super Heroes will be present.
So kids, bring your family and have a good time learning to be safe. The above article was published by The Tampa Tribune in its West Pasco Press edition on Friday, October 6, 2006.
